Why we made Kinfire

← Back to Kinfire

As our parents got older, we realized how much we'd never actually asked them. How they met. What our mom's favorite food was. Small things we always figured we'd get around to someday.

Then we lost our dad. We've both said the same thing more than once: we'd give anything to hear his voice again. We only have a couple of videos of him, but his voice in those still means everything, to us and to the rest of our family.

Family stories stay alive because the family keeps telling them. That used to happen around the table on Sunday. Now everyone is busy, and a lot of families live far apart: different towns, sometimes different countries. The stories don't get told, and nobody notices until it's too late to ask.

That's why we built Kinfire. Think of it as a Sunday supper for the people who can't be at the table. One question goes out to the whole family each week. Everyone answers when they can, in their own voice, and everyone gets to hear each other, without a group text nobody has time to keep up with.

And it's not only for the people you've lost. It's just as much about the people who are still here, while they're still here. Most weeks the questions are easy, some are funny, a few are more thoughtful. Our family has gotten real joy out of it, and we hope yours does too.
